Gale Tobin on Why You Can’t be Vegan
When Gale Tobin decided that she wanted to be vegan, it took every courage and determination she had to stick to the lifestyle that she wanted. Temptation is everywhere. Gale Tobin’s friends come from all walks of life and most of them are especially fond of eating meat!
The path of veganism isn’t for everyone. One must be determined to see the whole thing through. For those who are planning on pursuing a life of veganism, Gale Tobin first wants to share a few things with you on why you can’t be vegan:
You’re gluten-free.
Just a heads up to everyone out there who wants to go vegan; if you’re a gluten-free person, then you might not want to continue your plan. Seitan, one of the popular vegan food is made from weight gluten. It’s food that is packed with protein and is one of the many substitutes for meat for vegans. If your system can’t take in gluten, then Gale Tobin has bad news for you.
While not taking seitan is still an option, you will be hard-pressed to find a better meat substitute.
You are terrible at meal planning.
Do you hate making planned schedules? Are you someone who can’t stick to a program, especially with diets? Then veganism is not for you. When Gale Tobin started going vegan, she knew that it’d be some time before she’ll get used to following a vegan meal plan. Sticking to this said plan will seriously test one’s discipline, so for those who feel that they can’t stick to following a meal plan, then seriously reconsider.
You have a deficiency in zinc
Because veganism is full consumption of just plant-based food, you will soon lack some of the nutrients that come from meat. While your body will slowly regain those nutrients when you start taking in vegan food that is rich in nutrients coming from meat, regaining those nutrients will not be as fast compared to eating meat. Such is the case with zinc.
If you’ve gone to your doctor and he/she tells you that you have a deficiency in zinc, then say goodbye to your vegan dreams. Unfortunately, there are only a limited number of plant-based food options that are rich in zinc, so do take this into consideration.
You are allergic to soy and nuts
Soy and nuts are a vegan’s best friends. These two legumes provide protein that is constantly needed by your body for muscle growth and regeneration. So if you have a food allergy with either of these two, then you’re going to have a hard time going vegan. These two plants are the biggest source of protein after animal meat and products. If you also have a problem with gluten, then you have no option but to abandon your desire to go vegan.
You dislike reading nutritional labels on food
Finally, another reason why going vegan is not the best option is because you don’t like reading nutrition labels on food. In order to come up with a balanced diet while going vegan, you need to develop the habit of reading those nutritional labels on the back of every bottle or food pack. Those labels are there for a reason; to help people pick the right food based on the nutrients presented on those labels. Not picking the right food is not optimal for a person who is not exactly eating a balanced diet from the start.
Now before you react, Gale Tobin’s point in this article is to enlighten everyone who wants to just jump in on the vegan bandwagon. Going vegan may sound like all exotic and fancy, but it’s a lifetime of commitment towards eating only plant-based food to spread and create a humane world. Please consult a doctor before deciding to go vegan.
